At break of day I raise my voice in adoration
to God who is my only hope and my salvation.
At break of day my longing soul invokes Christ's merit,
knowing his grace will bring peace to my restless spirit.
Because of his great love he hears our prayers,
granting relief from all our fears and cares.
His mighty hand upholds us with his power,
even delivering us in death's hour.

2.
When shades of night descend and threaten to oppress us,
my soul in prayer rejoicingly God's name confesses.
A peace so great and wonderful beyond description is mine,
for Christ removes all worry and affliction.
I also raise my voice in adoration
when all the world is suffering tribulation.
The sun goes down, with night its shadow casting,
but Christ remains. His love is everlasting.

            This song, originally titled "Pero Queda Cristo," was included in the International Songbook for both the 1978 and 1990 Mennonite World Conferences. The earlier collection was the first to publish this English translation of the text, as well as one in German by Esther C. Bergen. Only one change has been made: "Christ's merit" replaces "God's merit" in stanza 1:3. The two stanzas take us from "break of day" until "the sun goes down," reminding us that God's love and mercy are indeed "everlasting."
            The harmony, with the warm sound of sixths and thirds, creates a sense of the comfort described in the text. The use of only two chords makes this an easy song for guitarists to play.
